Position Size Calculator

The same trade, sized three different ways — Conservative, Normal, Aggressive — chosen by where you actually are, not who you'd like to be. Arithmetic, not a guess.

Most blown accounts weren't one bad call — they were the right size for a trader having a better week than this one. The calculator asks for your real numbers, not your best case.

The Three Tiers

  1. 1

    Conservative

A fixed 0.25% risk per trade. It would take a long, uninterrupted losing streak to fail an account sized this way.

  2. 2

    Normal

Sized from your real max drawdown and your actual trades-per-week from Daily Close — not a guess, your own logged average.

  3. 3

    Aggressive

Gated behind four honest checkboxes — a real profitable stretch, real payouts (not just passed evaluations), a separate income stream, and a smaller account only. All four, not most.

The Comfort Loss Test

The formula tells you what your account can take. The Comfort Loss test asks what your head can take: picture this trade hitting its stop at a given amount. Would you shrug and take the next one, or would it sting? If it stings, the amount drops to about 60% and you answer again, until the honest answer is a shrug. Down only, never up.

That number becomes your loss per trade in your Risk Constitution. When the formula would let you risk more, the calculator tells you plainly to size down to it. We wrote about why in Find Your Comfort Loss Before You Size a Trade.

In Contracts, for Your Stop

Pick the instrument (MES, MNQ, MYM, M2K, MGC, ES or NQ) and the stop you planned before the entry. The calculator turns the dollar risk into whole contracts that fit inside the smallest of: the formula's risk, your comfort loss, and, with a prop account set up, the cap from your drawdown ladder.

When even one contract at that stop costs more than that, it says the trade doesn't fit, instead of rounding up to one. The honest options are a tighter stop, only if your setup really allows it, a micro instead of the full-size contract, or the simulator until the trade fits.

Common Questions

Is this financial advice?

No. It's an illustrative reference calculation from a real risk-sizing framework, not a guarantee. Always verify against your own firm's actual rules before trading on it.

Does it save or track anything?

Only your comfort loss, if you take the test. The sizing itself is a pure calculation, and none of it touches your Discipline Score. Once your Risk Constitution is signed, a higher comfort loss goes through the Risk Ladder, not the test.
