Why I Built LAYER 0

It started in the fall of 2020, during COVID. I had real capital — not a funded account, my own money — and zero experience with trading, period. I made $1,500 to $6,000 in an afternoon on my first real trading days, and it felt like I'd found the cheat code. My wife thought it was an answered prayer.

It wasn't. Over the next two years, that turned into a loss approaching six figures.

It wasn't one bad trade. It was no risk management, ever — profits never taken, positions left to ride, “just this once” becoming every time. I knew the rules by the second year. I broke them anyway, every time it mattered.

I hid most of it from my wife. I believed, the way a smoker believes the statistics don't apply to him, that I was the exception.

She begged me to stop. I didn't listen — I went deeper, then started borrowing money just to keep trading, telling myself I could win it back quickly if I kept going. It only got worse.

Eventually she'd had enough — told me it was trading or her, that this had stopped being a business and started being a compulsion, and she started seriously considering separation. Not long after, she told close friends about it. Watching people who'd looked up to me go quiet, disappointed, was the last nail in the coffin of my “new business.”

Years later, what finally turned it around wasn't a better strategy. It was building something that didn't let me negotiate with myself anymore.

I built LAYER 0 because on the days I was the biggest risk in the room, I needed something to stand between me and the market — and I didn't have it. Not a strategy. Not an indicator. A gate that forces a moment of friction before the damage starts.

Today I'm working toward trading being one of a few income streams, not a bet on everything. LAYER 0 is part of how I hold that line — and I built it so other traders don't have to learn this the same way I did.
